Robert Barton, known onstage as Bubba Lownotes (sometimes Bubba Low Notes), is a long-time Key West musician originally from Richmond, Virginia. A multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, he began on clarinet and tuba before becoming known for his stand-up bass, electric bass, and deep baritone/tenor voice. He is a familiar presence throughout the Key West music scene.
Bubba is known for his colorful stage personality, including his iconic hand-painted psychedelic tuba, and he performs regularly at the Schooner Wharf Bar, the Green Parrot, and the Little Room Jazz Club. He has performed with many well-known Key West musicians and bands, including Bill Blue, Coffee Butler–related groups, and the Toad Lickers.
