A talented pandeiro player, Bubu was a member of the group of sambistas of the '40s that would become known as the Turma do Muro ("the Gang of the Wall," as they gathered in a daily basis at the wall of the train station of Oswaldo Cruz). His most successful samba, "Esta Melodia," was recorded originally in 1959 by <a href="spotify:artist:4PirWL5JYf8HerMVvmwuD0">Jamelão</a>, and re-recorded by <a href="spotify:artist:0tWtrXx0eO52k40JMojM0j">Clementina de Jesus</a> (1966), <a href="spotify:artist:0VuTQAZXAEAjmYvZLw6Csq">Cristina Buarque</a> (1976), and <a href="spotify:artist:0rSTXALHu0EKAawPLBdODH">Marisa Monte</a> (1994).
