Bubunaé, an eclectic Ghanaian singer and songwriter, officially began his music journey in 2009 when his father took him to the studio to record his first demo, marking a pivotal moment in his early musical development. This, combined with his father’s deep appreciation for a variety of genres such as reggae, country, world music, and jazz, greatly influenced Bubunaé’s musical upbringing in Accra. In 2011, he formed a gospel group called J.C Crew while in high school, further cementing his passion for music.
After moving to Canada in 2012, Bubunaé decided to pursue music professionally. His debut solo single, Africa is Alone , was released in 2014 and resonated with African youth both in Ghana and Windsor. Drawing inspiration from artists like Paul Simon, Jimmy Cliff, Richard Bona, Sam Cooke, Gregory Porter, and Asa, he released his debut EP Walk in the Park in 2017. The EP gained recognition, with airplay on CBC Radio and a performance at the National Basketball League of Canada’s half-time show. He also won a songwriting competition for his song Conversations from the EP, hosted by Windsor Essex Compassion Community.
Bubunaé has since performed at Sofar Sounds Accra and other stages in Ghana. In 2023 he released a project titled Long Road. Following his latest single New Jerusalem, he is set to release more soul-stirring music.
