Fronting an exciting mixture of jazz, pop, and Latin, Bucho took its place among the up and coming bands on the Northern California scene in the post-millennium. The nucleolus of the band was formed when singer Gerald Pease met percussionist Derek Taylor. Taylor, meanwhile, had gone to school with bassist Josh Lippi and trumpeter Leon Moore. Along the way, organist Ben Schwier, trumpeter Anthony Coleman, saxophonist Roger Cox, and trumpeter Justin Williams also joined the group. Bucho named itself after a character in the 1995 film, Desperado. The band gained momentum after it was nominated and won Sammies in 2002 and 2003. Thanks to the large number of players in the band, Bucho easily found a distinct sound and endless room for fresh arrangements.

Bucho released its self-titled album in 2003 on House Cat Records. Despite the momentum, the band was soon sidelined following an accident.Bucho had opened for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at a gig in Las Vegas in May, but their van had a blow-out on the return trip. Singer Pease sustained serious injuries. Bucho, however, quickly recouped, and in 2005, released a second album, Omit the Harsh, on Dig Music. ~ Ronnie D. Lankford, Jr., Rovi
