I am a lyricist songwriter. Retired former artist/musician/performer. I love all genres of music. I began my career as a classic rock musician in the late 1960's. Play lead guitar and performed all over for 10 years. My wife is also a co-writer of all our songs. A fantastic bass guitarist. Through many years I've had some involvement with music. In the mid 1980's I began a serious effort to write country songs. Visited Nashville several times and made acquaintances. Had the fantastic invitation opportunity to spend a 3-day songwriters island seminar. I was blessed to be one of 5 people selected on Larry Henley's team (Wind Beneath My Wings). My wife was on a team with Larry Gatlin. Very quickly humbled at the skills of such legends. Such an experience that truly helped us hone skills over the years. I've came close to being published a few times with original songs but have yet to jump that hurdle. I remember Larry Henley saying Wind Beneath My Wings sat idle in publisher's catalogs nearly 5 years before someone decided to record it. I can't recall the first artist that did it. It charted but not until Bette Midler did it become a legendary song. Songwriting is not an easy occupation and so very, very much of the successes results in so many cases......the right song heard by the right person at the right time and the right artist. That's unfortunate and there are thousands of jewels never heard. It's just the way the business is.
