Busted Statues

Busted Statues thrived in the Boston college-rock underground from the early 80s to early 1990s - periodically. Fellow travelers of Mission of Burma, the Statues shared stages with the legendary Boston bands of that fertile scene, and some like-minded national bands such as Husker Du, Dream Syndicate, and others. But as the original press materials for the “Red Clouds” single states, “Busted Statues have either found the secret to legend-building or they have a pathological disdain of success.”
After placing two songs on Gerard Cosloy’s "Bands That Could be God" compilation, and releasing “Heart Upside Down,” the sing-along summer song of 1984, Busted Statues (Bob Moses, guitar and b/u vocals; Bob L’Heureux, vocals; Diane Bergamasco, bass; and Brian Gillespie, drums) vanished until resurfacing to record this session in 1989 and perform with future Volcano Sun Dave Kleiler on second guitar (the last iteration of the live band had Corey Brennan from the Lemonheads on guitar). Recorded at the original Ft. Apache in Boston with Sean Slade, pre-Radiohead recording duties, these recordings capture the band at its best and virtually live in the studio. The single “Red Clouds” was a collaboration with Clint Conley from Mission of Burma and became another college-radio “hit”; the EP features another Conley collaboration, “Relics,” which has never been heard. In fact, “Red Clouds” and its b-side “Bo Tree” were the only songs even mixed at the time.
