BWANA is the shoegaze indie-pop and alternative music project of Friedel Dufait. She immediately convinces with her melancholic guitar lines and her deep, powerful vocals, in which harmonious polyphony plays a strong role. Both as a ‘one-woman band’, where she plays all the instruments herself, and with her live band, she brings her unique sound to life and unmistakably pushes the Bwanan style in your face. Her lyrics are original and sincere, with a universal familiarity that touches.

With influences from Slowdive, girl in red and PJ Harvey, she managed to stand out at Humo's Rock Rally 2022 and as a finalist of Sound Track 2021-2022. Her powerful live performances caught the attention of Pukkelpop programmer Eppo Janssen, who tipped her as a name to keep an eye on. In 2024, her single “Lonely Happy” was awarded the title of winner of Studio Brussels' De Nieuwe Lichting, definitively claiming her place in the spotlight.

There is a lot of new music in 2025. With fresh inspiration and studio recordings on the way, this promises to be a year in which BWANA deepens and strengthens its unique sound.
