Remember when Marty McFly jammed Johnny B. Goode at the enchantment under the sea dance in Back to the Future? I do. That scene really catapulted my six year old ass in a certain direction. It wasn’t a cherry red Gibson ES-345, but boy was I obsessed with my first miniature, beat up guitar.
It wasn’t until I got a bit older and tested by the turbulence of high school that I discovered music was my emotional outlet. As an alternative, creative kid growing up in Western Sydney, it was easy to feel like an outsider. Chatting to people about my feelings was never an option. So I carried a notebook and pen. I filled it with the inner workings of my brain. I sang the words. It helped me.
These songs are an extension of myself. If I were the last man on earth I’d still be creating them. Although I truly do make music for myself, I think it’s special to share my experiences with people who can relate to them. Think of the songs as catchy letters from me to you, signed - byjaye.
