C The Reason

Christopher “C The Reason” Cargnello is one of those rare multi-instrumentalist producers who is equally comfortable writing an afrobeats banger or arranging for a 17-piece jazz orchestra. In 2023, he produced Burundian-Canadian singer Aiza’s debut full-length album Sovereignty, a blend of modern afropop and throwback R&B. It features Divinity Roxx (former musical director and bassist for Beyoncé) on the saucy diss-track Rosé, and remained in the NACC and Canadian national campus and community radio charts for 28 weeks, peaking at #2 in Hip Hop and #10 in the Top 50.

Cargnello has also been creatively involved in a number of TV & film productions. He was the executive producer and series composer for the CBC Gem original series Real Blackity Talk, winning Series of the Year at the 2023 Gala Dynastie and picking up a nomination for Best Host at the 2023 Canadian Screen Awards. The series also won Best Lifestyle at the 2023 TO WebFest and was nominated in multiple other categories. He was executive producer of two music videos (Sovereignty and Majimbo) by Aiza, shot in Accra, Ghana in January 2023. Sovereignty was recently nominated at the 2024 Berlin Music Video Awards in the category of Best Art Direction. He composed the score for the short film Element by director Will Niava (Billie Eilish, Joey Bada$$, H.E.R.), which premiered at the 2023 Vancouver International Film Festival and won Best Rebel with a Cause Short Film at the 2023 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.
