Having first picked up a guitar 12 years ago to mend his broken teenage heart in rural Australia, writing soppy love songs to serenade girls at uni, detouring into the world of EDM as a DJ/Producer for 3 years, then giving up on music altogether before returning to his folk-rock roots late in 2017, Callan John truly epitomises what it means to take the long way round.

But after spending more than a decade in the shadows carefully crafting his sound and drawing on a broad pallet of influences ranging from Jack Johnson to Frank Ocean, this deep-thinking, coffee-drinking aged care Physiotherapist is now emerging as one of Sydney’s most promising and enigmatic singer/songwriters.

Starting with his debut single ‘Fate’ in April, 2020 has seen the independent artist release a steady stream of songs from his 9-track mixtape ‘L89’ (Latey Nine); a collection of catchy indie-folk-pop jams written over a 10-year period to tell (mostly) true tale of love & loss from start to finish.

With the expertise of legendary producer Tim Carr (Matt Corby - ‘Brother’) woven into the strong lyrical and melodic fabric of each song, it was only a matter of time before they began to get traction. Now, having received Triple J airplay on two singles ('A Home She Made', 'All OK’), support from some of Australia’s most trusted music tastemakers (Scenestr, Happy Mag) & backing by playlist heavyweights Indiemono, Callan John is gathering steam and has his sights set on a very bright future indeed.
