Canopy Space

Canopy Space is the Alt-Folk Duo of Rick Magrath and Annie Gallie. Passionate and energetic, Canopy Space plays local venues around West Michigan. Both Annie and Rick are Pentwater High School teachers and found themselves playing music after school to simply unwind in what they called, "the long commute." Inspired by bands such as The Indigo Girls and The Civil Wars, they soon became a bit more serious in their musical endeavors and began composing and writing, focusing on lyrics and harmonies. The newest release for Canopy Space is Swimming (2023), which was recorded, mixed, and produced by Andy Henley in Hart, Michigan. The album explores new musical territory, with Andy contributing some great guitar and bass.

Cruel Art (2015) and was recorded in a chilly storefront room by Dan Nugent in two days during Spring Break, giving the album a live feel. Color My Own World (2016) was recorded, mixed, and produced by Dick Bourgault, who also contributed keys. Reach (2020) was released during Covid-19 and was recorded in Rick's Hilltop House and mixed and mastered by Dick Bourgault.

Canopy Space believes in the importance of supporting our local artists, with several doing some of our cover work-- Cruel Art: Riley Barnett; Color My Own World: Meagan Grondsma; and Reach: Hannah Gebhart (gebhartist.com).

Rick also recently released a solo album, Disconnected, with local multi-instrumentalist Andy Henley.
