Captain Kubar

Captain Kubar is the sonic alter ego of Istanbul born, Hamburg based producer and multi-instrumentalist Emre Tuncel — a spaceship captain in sound form, blending cosmic grooves with earthly emotion. Drawing from trip-hop, reggae, rock, jazz and Anatolian music, his soundscapes are cinematic and driven by storytelling.

Kubar performs live with electric guitar and synths, while triggering and manipulating beats in Ableton, creating rich performances that blur the lines between organic and electronic sound.

His discography traces a clear artistic evolution: the instrumental debut Space Camels (2018) featured clarinet and oud across genre-blending tracks; Hyperspace Travelling captured the energy of his 2018–2019 live sets; Planet Pop (2020) introduced vocals and dance-infused guitars with English lyrics; and Otorite Sevmeyen Şarkılar (2023) brought Turkish lyrics and a political edge to his sound.

Now, after settling in Hamburg, Kubar returns with “Unterwegs”, his first track shaped by field recordings captured on the Hamburg S-Bahn. The song is an attempt to portray the city through his own eyes and ears, marking a new chapter of connection, reflection and forward motion.
