Argentinean guitar virtuoso Carina Alfie is one of South America's shining stars. Having spent the 1990s paving her way in the male-dominated rock world, Alfie persevered and honed an amazing guitar playing style. Her debut album, Aislomiento, was released in 1996 and it did impressively well in her native land. A year later, a chance meeting with Grammy Award-winning guitarist Steve Vai opened new doors for Alfie. She joined Vai and his band at a show in Buenos Aires and later dedicated a song to Vai on her 2000 release, Mundo Interior. In September of that year, Alfie joined Vai at his Mothership recording studio in Hollywood in preparation for a third album. At this time, she also befriended drummer Linda McDonald of the Los Angeles rock outfit Phantom Blue. The two struck up a friendship, which allowed Alfie to write and record with Phantom Blue. They were later featured on the 2001 various-artists compilation Warmth in the Wilderness: A Tribute to Jason Becker. Aside from her solo work, Alfie also works with the instrumental act Lunatycos. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, Rovi
