Carl Doy is a British-born New Zealand pianist, composer, and arranger, renowned for his Piano by Candlelight series of albums which has sold over three million copies worldwide.
Born in Camberley, England, in 1947, Doy showed early musical talent, playing by ear before earning a scholarship to the Royal College of Music, where he studied piano, organ, and composition. He began his career performing on cruise ships before emigrating to New Zealand in 1973, where he became a leading session musician for TVNZ and arranged major works, including the Royal Variety Performance for Queen Elizabeth II and a papal mass.
In 1987, Doy collaborated with producer Murray Thom to launch Piano by Candlelight, with the debut album going platinum in the U.S. and topping charts in New Zealand. His arrangements have been performed by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and his Together 10CD Collection was featured on Oprah Winfrey's "Favourite Things" show. Doy has also served as musical director for Dancing with the Stars NZ, received the prestigious Benny Award, and was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to music. He continues to create and share music that blends classical elegance with contemporary warmth.
