The five songs that comprise Carl Giannelli’s debut EP, “Sincerity”, are anthemic as they are eloquently written.
Known as frontman and chief-songwriter for Connecticut power trio <a href="spotify:artist:0wHg65ZnTnryVeco5JzyB5" data-name="Kim Normal">Kim Normal</a>, Giannelli sets fuzz pedal aside without sacrificing his songwriting’s integrity for his debut solo EP, “Sincerity”. Beginning work on the EP as early as 2020, “Sincerity” sees Giannelli drawing heavily on his influence of prolific songwriters. While melodies and progressions akin to the work of <a href="spotify:artist:7CW5MYWUsyUYiHbiTmVZHe" data-name="Alex Chilton">Alex Chilton</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:2UZMlIwnkgAEDBsw1Rejkn" data-name="Tom Petty">Tom Petty</a> present themselves across the tracklist of “Sincerity”, it is Giannelli’s reflective and thought-provoking lyrical narratives that push his music forward. As much as his songs acknowledge the great songwriters that came before him, they consistently possess what is needed to keep a genre evolving.
Enlisting the help of collaborators Isaiah Welch-Novels (bass & violin) and Ryan Wall (drums), “Sincerity” was recorded over three days in June 2022. Expanding upon Giannelli’s acoustic instrumentation on three “Sincerity” tracks, their performances elevate the whole of the EP, making it a joyous listen for all.
