Growing up in Nayarit, Mexico, Carlos Correa faced many hardships from the violence that surrounded his community. Correa first discovered his love for music when he was in middle school where he was introduced to percussive instruments. He played in a small music ensemble at school where he was the only student in his class with no music experience. Without any formal training, Correa taught himself to play by ear.
Correa decided to return to his native town of Nayarit and attempted to enroll himself in the local music school, but he missed the enrollment deadline. Eager to become a full-time student, he decided to study plastic arts for a year and was finally accepted into the music program the following school year. Using Yanni, Nach and Eminem as inspiration, Correa gained mastery in the guitar, piano and the flute. Equipped with his cultivated musical talent, Correa relocated to the United States where he enrolled in the Berklee College of Music and began creating his own compositions.
