Carlos Rafael Rivera is a Grammy and three-time Emmy-winning composer and educator with a diverse career spanning film, TV, and the performing arts. His acclaimed works include scores for Netflix’s The Queen's Gambit, HBO's Hacks, Universal Pictures’ A Walk Among The Tombstones, Chupa, Netflix's Griselda, and the global hit La Reina Del Sur for Netflix/Telemundo.
In 2024, Carlos scored Apple TV's Lessons in Chemistry starring Brie Larson, earning him a third Emmy win. His upcoming projects include Bleecker Street's Ezra featuring Robert DeNiro and continued collaborations with writer/director Scott Frank on AMC's Monsieur Space and Netflix’s Department Q.
A protégé of Randy Newman, Carlos was named TV Composer of the Year by the World Soundtrack Awards in 2021 and was nominated again in 2024. He serves as Chair and Associate Professor of the Media Scoring and Production Department at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music.
