Cartel Citizen is the independent alternative metal and progressive metal project of Australian songwriter and musician David Sheedy.
David writes the music and lyrics, develops the arrangements, and performs the guitar and bass parts. Each track begins with original riffs, lived experience, emotional intent and deliberate creative direction. Vocals and drums are produced using digital production tools, while the songwriting, guitar work, bass, arrangements and overall artistic vision remain David’s.
Created as a form of release and reconstruction, Cartel Citizen transforms personal history into cinematic heavy music built around low-tuned guitars, djent-influenced grooves, melodic intensity and emotionally expansive songwriting.
Drawing from a dysfunctional upbringing and the lasting effects of domestic violence, emotional manipulation, distrust and betrayal, every song carries deliberate narrative weight. These are not abstract themes—they are lived experiences translated into structured and intentional compositions.
Musically, Cartel Citizen balances technical heaviness with emotional lift. Tight, syncopated riffs anchor the verses while soaring vocals reach for something beyond the pain. The sound is dark, heavy and cinematic, but rejects nihilism in favour of survival, growth and forward movement.
The purpose, to create heavy music that helps people reflect, process what they have lived through and recognise their own resilience.
