Introducing Carvill- a rap and hip-hop artist hailing from the Bay Area, California. Known for his gritty old-school flow and hard-hitting bars that read like a memoir of his life, Carvill’s sound is smooth yet street, with a West Coast lean.
Carvill was a straight-A student, excelling academically, and known at school as “the kid with the words”. He recalls: “Rhyming was so easy to me, it was like a second language. People would tell me I talked in rhyme or in a rhythmic flow. Back then I didn’t understand it, I was just talking."
Growing up in Compton, gang life was rife. Out on the streets, Carvill caught his first criminal case aged 12, then spent the rest of his childhood in and out of juvie, camps and institutions. He was eventually put into an all-boys group home where he met his close friend and collaborator, Kool Aid. They began battle rapping together before Kool Aid's death, after which Carvill stopped music and fell headfirst into criminal life.
After serving a five-year prison sentence, Carvill began writing new rhymes, stories and songs, and began to pursue his musical career more seriously.
From his tough Compton upbringing, to overcoming life or death struggles in prison and on the streets, Carvill's success story is palpable in his music. Motivated by fatherhood and leaving a legacy for his daughter, he is driven for those who have had similar experiences to have a voice through him - one of hope and guidance.
