Cathedral Birds are a Sheffield , UK, based songwriting duo. They write narrative songs aimed at a late night audience. Cathedral Birds musical heroes are the likes of Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Frank Sinatra, Agnes Obel , Father John Misty, Joni Mitchell and John Grant. They are also influenced by deep soul records . In 2020 they were featured in the book A Northern Soul about the Cathedral Birds singers' early mentor , Dave Godin , the man who coined the phrase Northern Soul , compiled the Kent Records Deep Soul compilations and introduced Mick Jagger to the Blues ! Cathedral Birds first gig was a covid super spreader event at which audience members and the band caught covid with tragic results. They have been very vocal at denouncing conspiracy theories and wrote On The Other Side as a response to covid deniers. Cathedral Birds have released six EPs. In December 2021 they released a deeply sentimental stand alone single called Happy New Year describing their experience on the 2020 lockdown new year. In April 2022 they released 4 Songs About Love And Comic Books . Comic Books is an autobiographical song about childhood and super heroes. August 2022 saw the release of 4 Songs About Love In The City , a state of the nation address with songs about politics , homelessness , consumerism and the bad side of a good night out. Cathedral Birds music is best listened to at midnight with the lights down low.
