“indie pop to dance around your bedroom crying to”
charity shop pop (csp) is the brainchild of ormskirk’s david hughes. he was born in a charity shop in 2018, where he acquired all the instruments and equipment he would require to produce music from his bedroom. this was history in the making
his style blends current indie and bedroom pop sounds, with 80s pop and psychedelic sounds, which finds csp in a unique placing within the music world. his lyrics typically take on a humorous reflection of his lack of a love life, with song ‘simp city’ soon to hit the spotify shelves.
on a budget of 10p, a packet of chewies and pocket lint, csp found moderate success with some of his early music, with ‘crazy about her’ featured on spotify’s very own ‘transistor’ playlist, alongside artists such as liam gallagher, the night cafe and gerry cinnamon.
prior to lockdown, csp could be regularly found in the basements of his local music venues, which found him supporting artists such as girli, ashnikko and pip blom, while in 2019 he sold out his first ever headline show and headlined a stage of liverpool’s iconic sound city festival.
there’s not much more to say about our lovable csp, other than keep an eye out for new music by giving his page a follow
