Having worked on film projects for over two decades now, Charles Newman started his foray into film music with one of his first major song placements in the cult classic film Empire Records when his band PLEASE worked with Talking Head / producer Jerry Harrison and mixer Tom Lord-Alge on their song "Here it Comes Again” landing them in the film and on the platinum selling A&M Records soundtrack. From there he went on to supply music as a composer, producer and work as a music editor on an array of projects. Newman has scored several award winning documentaries and recently music supervised and score produced projects that include "All These Small Moments" starring Molly Ringwald, Jemima Kirke and Brian James D'Arcy, and the feature film "Monday" for Robert Rodriguez's "Rebel Without a Crew Project" and TV series. The documentary film he scored, “Denise Ho Becoming The Song” came out earlier this year to a New York Times critics pick, and he recently finished working on the Y2K inspired feature film “Millennium Bugs” as music supervisor and composer, creating the score from unreleased tracks from the 90s dug up off DAT tapes from his former band PLEASE’s archives.
