Chasing Ebenezer is a world folk-rock band based in Portland, Oregon. With influences from Celtic, African, and Middle Eastern music, their songs make it hard for audiences to sit still. Their tunes are alive with bohemian violin licks, world percussion, and an ever-increasing array of instruments. The band is fronted by husband and wife team Benjamin & Heidi Beth Sadler.
Although "Farewell, Innocence" their latest release, was titled before the height of 2020, this project has proven to be aptly foretelling. Recorded at Shady Pines Studio, these five tracks explore the complex journey of love and life. With an array of instruments including: bohemian violin, electric guitar, hammer dulcimer, roaring drums and world percussion, these tunes provide hope in the midst of great hardship.
The band has been privileged to play across the Pacific NW. Venues include McMenamins Edgefield, Northwest Folklife, and various farmers’ markets. Their songs have been featured by Portland Radio Project 99.1 FM, KMUZ 100.7 FM in Salem, KBOO Radio, the Indie Music Lives Here Podcast and Marti’s Music Kitchen Podcast. You may have seen Benjamin & Heidi at the Rose Festival, KINK Radio’s Noon Tunes, or on KGW (NBC’s Portland affiliate).
Benjamin and Heidi Beth Sadler moved to Portland in 2007. They started Chasing Ebenezer in 2013. They are now joined by Bryan Atkinson on percussion, Ryan Souders on drums, and David Skones on bass, guitar, and cello.
