Cheap Jeep are kindred musical wolves from way over yonder who carve landscapes grooved with a symbiosis of steep tradition and lawless exploration. Riding first left, then right into a brilliant sunset bejewelled with classic country, jam band and neon bluegrass colours, they show no mercy throughout performances crystallised with songs both tender and rambunctious.
The Copenhagen-based outfit comprise of Tom Dockray from Australia on guitar, Rick Hauchman on mandolin and Mads Bendsen on upright bass. Each contribute to the vocals, song catalogue and production.
Cheap Jeep’s new EP ‘Cheap Jeep 2’ is the quick-fire follow-up to their sparkling debut ‘Cheap Jeep’ from December ’24. Made lovingly with the same formula of five great songs recorded live, the trio continue to blossom. The EP quickly reasserts the band’s breadth with blissful old-time opener ‘Take Your Time’ into the forlorn tragedy of ‘Time To Be Alive’. All cylinders fire on the blistering 3rd track ‘Anything Anytime’, followed by the Edward Sharpe-isms of ‘Dream Is Real’ and leaves us still in top gear with the Grateful-Dead-on-speed nonchalance of ‘The Man’. As with its predecessor, The EP was produced from live takes in the band’s bunker in Copenhagen using a simple set up and minimal processing - what you hear is what Cheap Jeep sound like in a room, warts and all. 2025 is shaping to be the year of the Jeep!
