Bridging indie rock attitude with prog rock soundscapes, Indiana's Check Engine came together in early 2000 after several failed attempts in other bands. <a href="spotify:artist:1nc5zIko9PLegcxVvB0bQW">Sweep the Leg Johnny</a>'s Steve Sostak and Chris Daly had been jamming together since the early '90s, but they yearned for something more permanent. <a href="spotify:artist:67OMnragGCfOfDfyiqk7Jt">Big'N</a> drummer Brian Wnukowski and <a href="spotify:artist:0bXpHhBcECTl3U1mW86Xcm">Lynx</a> bass player Paul P. Joyce made that wish come true, solidifying Check Engine's creative unit. Their self-titled effort was issued on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Southern%22">Southern</a> in early 2002.
