Euan and Michael work two cities apart – with Michael in St. Louis, and Euan now based in Washington, DC.
Chinese IX’s style is highly confessional and analogous. Their third studio album “Manifesto” was a searing anti-extremist examination of the country we find ourselves in today, and the culture that made it possible.
They then targeted big Pharma with “SSRI” and the corporate culture with the “Cornflower Blue” trilogy - which has racked up well over 100,000 streams, their most popular set of releases yet. After finishing the trilogy in 2025 Euan & Mike are planning a trip into new sonic landscapes with “Bullet Holes in my Door”.
Euan says “In the end, Chinese IX is about the human condition, and it’s about trying to quantify, selfishly, my human condition. And making a connection with another person in that way is incredibly important. But in the end, if there’s only 500 people – right now we have a listenership of about 2,000 people regularly – if that where it ends up, fine. That means I’ve touched 2,000 people’s lives who I may never meet. But having the power to do that, knowing what music does to me when I listen to it, knowing that what we’re doing can do that to somebody else, is a privilege.”
Mike says “play the music, and play it right”.
