A relative of influential Cuban composer and pianist Ignacio Cervantes, Chispa (or "the Spark") has led his 13-piece orchestra, Chispa y Los Cómplices, through a blend of traditional salsa and the more modern funk-influenced timba style since the late '90s. Their first album, Mew Pa' Que Vea, was issued in 2001 and enjoyed chart success in Cuba. A second release followed in 2003, Qué le Pasa a Mi Negra. ~ Wade Kergan, Rovi
