Chronographer is an Iowa-based math rock band looking to express musical individuality. With roots in genres ranging everywhere from math rock to progressive metal to jazz, the project started with guitarist Ethan Johnson toying with the concept of using odd meter and rhythmic complexity in an intuitive way. After beginning work on some demos with this concept, the name “Chronographer” (simply meaning a person who works with timekeeping devices) stuck, and the project soon expanded to a duo with the addition of Beckett Hunzelman on bass, a friend from a jazz combo camp.
A new addition is Matthew Johnson under the artist name Haeleon as a third member by proxy. As an independent experimental EDM artist, he will contribute synthesized sounds and textures to the band’s increasingly unique and progressive sound in future releases.
Chronographer is currently writing and recording material for future releases, hopefully as soon as early 2025.
