Formed in 2019 out of a desire for more fat femme representation in the music scene, Chub Rub consists of four powerful voices with stories to tell. Blending angelic harmonies with cutting, relatable lyrics, Chub Rub is both ethereal and supremely down-to-earth. Driven by straightforward drum beats, surf-inspired instrumentation and an underlying punk ethos, 'Make Some Fucking Space' is Chub Rub's first size-10 step into a world that has previously held little musical regard for fat folks, and especially fat femmes. Guitarist Sara McGivney's strong lyrical background and heartfelt, honeyed voice lends itself perfectly to the honest storytelling of this EP. Jenna Siegel buoys the group's seraphic harmonies with a deep, balanced and beatific alto, whereas drummer Claire Pope’s saintly soprano shines like a beacon. Rounding out the mix is Corinne Dodenhoff, whose underlying bass riffs lend scaffolding and structure. Embellishing the album is Sara's sunsoaked ukulele paired with Corinne's shimmering lap steel slides. These babes may call themselves 'four ghosts wailing in an attic', but their songs couldn't be more solid.
