CINEMA CINEMA was established in 2008 by Brooklyn-born cousins, Ev Gold and Paul Claro. Described as “experi-metal punks” by the Village Voice, a “jolt of adrenaline” by BrooklynVegan, and “feral and unrelenting” by Big Takeover, CINEMA CINEMA has performed over 475 shows across 11 countries, including a European tour with Martin Bisi Band in 2013 and runs with SST Records founder <a href="spotify:artist:7atYxgklW9rYRhSDCSLJbA" data-name="Greg Ginn">Greg Ginn</a> (opening for <a href="spotify:artist:5Mhs3Eu8lU6sRCtRYsmABV" data-name="Black Flag">Black Flag</a> throughout 2013-2014).

CINEMA CINEMA worked with producer Don Zientara (<a href="spotify:artist:1oVj9JmPUPg4SQ2uerV2xc" data-name="Bad Brains">Bad Brains</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:62sC6lUEWRjbFqXpMmOk4G" data-name="Fugazi">Fugazi</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:07PiZYrhllpSXtELkUxlrf" data-name="Minor Threat">Minor Threat</a>) on Manic Children and The Slow Aggression (2012), recorded at Inner Ear Studios. The band then worked with <a href="spotify:artist:0la2jwEnzoM8QqBkSyYvsu" data-name="Martin Bisi">Martin Bisi</a> at BC Studios on follow-ups: A Night at the Fights (2014) and Man Bites Dog (2017).

CINEMA CINEMA appeared in and contributed music to the 2014 documentary Sound and Chaos: The Story of BC Studio and were included on BC35, a celebration of the 35th anniversary of BC Studio – alongside members of Swans, Sonic Youth, Alice Donut, etc in 2018.

In 2019, the band released CCXMD - with Grammy winning multi-reedist Matt Darriau (<a href="spotify:artist:0tgCD1jE7zLillCOoG4h8d" data-name="The Klezmatics">The Klezmatics</a>) joining the duo for an entirely improvised affair. In 2021, CINEMA CINEMA would release CCXMDII, culled from the sessions that yielded (and serving as companion to) CCXMD.

In 2023, CINEMA CINEMA released Mjölnir (also recorded at BC Studio) featuring multi-instrumentalist Thor Harris (<a href="spotify:artist:79S80ZWgVhIPMCHuvl6SkA" data-name="Swans">Swans</a>). Tracked just before the COVID-19 pandemic, it is one of the band’s most expansive and expressive records to date.
