Circus of Horrors

A big top, over the top, circus-style horror and rock show that traveled the land, Circus of Horrors was started by Dr. Haze and Gerry Cottle, and debuted at the Glastonbury Festival in 1995. Having grown tired of the cramped stages and small venues of the straightforward rock & roll performance, Haze met up with Cottle, and convinced him that the idea of a big top-style version of what Haze's band was trying to pull off at the time would be a success. The show at Glastonbury (a telling of the future, the show was called 2020AH -- After the Holocaust) led to a tour, and an appearance in Munich in 1996. In 1997 the troupe hit the far-off lands of South America, eventually winding down the show in 1999 to retool and rethink the Circus for a version that would work in a theater format. The new extravaganza, based on an 18th century freak show, made its debut in 2000 and led to a CD release of the score, entitled Welcome to the Freak Show, in 2001. A tour of Japan followed shortly thereafter. Further shows and performances occurred over the next few years, and a new CD and DVD were in the works.
