Clifton Anderson is considered one of the leading trombonists and composers performing in Jazz today. His performances embody the fertile and varied history of musical experiences he's enjoyed working with a who's who of musical giants; from Sonny Rollins, McCoy Tyner, Dizzy Gillespie, Slide Hampton, Lester Bowie, Frank Foster, Charlie Haden and Dee Dee Bridgewater to Stevie Wonder, Keith Richards, Paul Simon, The Mighty Sparrow and Merv Griffin among others. Clifton is noted for his rich personal sound on the horn and for his abilities as a composer and musical interpreter. His identifiable sound and memorable compositions have drawn an ever expanding audience to his recordings and performances.
Born in Harlem, New York City into a musical family, Clifton showed an affinity for music at an early age.
and received his first trombone at 7 yrs. old from his uncle, Jazz Legend Sonny Rollins. Clifton attended the Fiorello LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and is a graduate of The Manhattan School Of Music. Clifton has recorded and self produced four acclaimed top 10 releases under his own name; Landmarks, Decade, And So We Carry On and Been Down This Road Before. He’s also produced pianist Tadataka Unno’s "Get My Mojo Back", and the Firey String Sisters "That's What She Said”. In 2022 Clifton launched his music label, What We Do Music. Collaborations with Sonny Rollins include appearances on 10 Rollins recordings and production credits.
