Todd Terry stands as one of house music’s most innovative and prolific producers. Emerging in 1980s New York, he helped define the city’s house sound by fusing disco, Chicago house, and hip-hop sampling, influencing both US and UK club scenes. His style shaped UK rave and hardcore and brought hip-house to wider audiences, notably with the Jungle Brothers' "I’ll House You." Throughout the late ’80s and early ’90s, Terry released a stream of influential singles under aliases such as Royal House ("Can You Party"), Black Riot ("A Day in the Life"), and Gypsymen ("Hear the Music"). His remix skills extended his impact, working with Björk, Janet Jackson, and others, and his partnership with Ministry of Sound cemented his legendary UK status.

A Brooklyn native, Terry began DJing hip-hop before embracing house, collaborating with New York legends like Little Louie Vega. In 1995, his remix of Everything But the Girl’s "Missing" became a global hit. He continued to evolve, releasing the vocal-driven "Ready for a New Day" (1997), dabbling in drum’n’bass ("Resolutions"), and running influential labels like Freeze and In House Records.

Terry’s output remained prolific into the 2010s and ’20s, with genre-crossing albums and collaborations with artists such as Robin S., Kevin Saunderson, and House Gospel Choir, alongside fresh remixes and new material. As a tastemaker, label boss, and trailblazer, Todd Terry’s enduring influence has shaped house music for over four decades.
