A basement studio in Stockholm, October 1989. If anyone would have told BTECH label boss and producer Jan Ekholm and DJ team Quartz that the samples they were playing around with this Sunday afternoon would become a house classic, they would have laughed.

But the track they walked out of the studio with – Let’s Get Busy – wasn’t only a huge club hit when released in 1990 under the name Clubland (with a No 1 in the Billboard Club Chart as the biggest achievement). 33 years later, it is indeed a true house classic.

This was only the beginning though. A year later, Jan Ekholm reformed Clubland with singer Zemya Hamilton and scored three Billboard Club Chart No 1s with Hold On (Tighter To Love), Set Me Free and Hypnotized, all taken from the album Adventures Beyond Clubland, often considered as one of the best house albums of the early 90s.

The success continued with Clubland’s third and last album The Secrets Of Inner Clubland, containing the movie theme Cry and the club smash Piece Of Luv.

Fast forward 25 years and Clubland’s house is still very much alive, and still loved by DJs all over the world. When Let’s Get Busy was re-released in 2019, it became a huge club hit once again, reaching No 1 in Music Week’s UK Upfront Club Chart.

Let's Get Busy 2019 was followed by Love Strain 2020 and Set Me Free 2020, both riding high in the UK club charts. Two years later, Hold On (Tighter To Love) 2022 did another fabulous comeback. Long live house!
