The aptly named Coastgaard issues an agreeable brand of guitar pop steeped in surf. The band was formed in Brooklyn by singer/guitarist Matt Miller and drummer Brian d'Alessandro, who, craving a change in direction, abandoned their moodier previous project, Sons of Sons. After fashioning some sunnier song material, they brought in guitarist/keyboardist Sean Glassman and bassist Paolo Codega, and self-released a '60s-impacted self-titled debut in 2013.
