Israeli beatmaker Michael Cohen goes by the name Cohen Beats, alternately stylized as CohenBeats or Cohenbeats. Though the Tel Aviv native has worked with singers and rappers, the majority of his sample-oriented production work is instrumental. Cohen began recording rap music as one-third of Cohen@Mushon during his late teenage years. He attended Red Bull Music Academy during its 2008 session in Barcelona, at which he co-created "Do I Know You?" with Fatima, Cuthead, and Dorian Concept. Cohen spent a few years living in Los Angeles, around the time he started releasing digital-download batches of tracks and remixes. Released on the Raw Tapes label in 2012, Milk & Honey, Vol. 1 was constructed from samples of Israeli music from the '60s, '70s, and '80s. EP-length collaborations with rapper Jeremiah Jae and singer KerenDun followed respectively in 2014 (the year he returned to Israel) and 2015. Cohen linked up with the Stones Throw label for the beat tape Daily Affirmations, released on multiple formats in 2017. Jae and Denmark Vessey were among the guests, as was Quelle Chris on the title track, replete with references to Al Franken's Saturday Night Live skit of the same name. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
