Sharing a united interest in German electronic music, the Field’s Axel Willner, Battles’ John Stanier, and Jens-Uwe Beyer (aka Popnoname), teamed up with some of Cologne, Germany’s most established electronic and experimental artists for a related side project titled Cologne Tape. Jörg Burger (Triola, the Modernist), Philipp Janzen (Von Spar), and Michaela Dippel (Ada) all took spots on the super-group’s roster, along with Kompakt Records’ visual artists and producers John Harten, and Daniel Ansorge. In 2010, Cologne Tape’s debut EP, Render, was slated to be the first release on Magazine, a subsidiary start-up of Kompakt. In hopes of keeping the release exclusive and to add appeal to collectors, Magazine announced their plans to limit Render to 300 vinyl copies and 1000 downloads, before releasing a follow-up. ~ Jason Lymangrover, Rovi
