“We’re Cool Kills, how about that?” vocalist and guitarist Willard Wilcox yelled to the crowd at the band’s debut performance at W.C. Social Club in West Chicago. The four-piece rock band from Chicago is unapologetically themselves, blending punk’s energy, pop’s hooks, and an alternative edge into a sound that’s fresh, fearless, and undeniably their own.
Announcing their arrival onto the scene in 2023 with the anthemic and endlessly catchy single “Run.”, Cool Kills put on full display just what exactly makes the band unique: the wildly contrasting vocals of Marc McClure (vocals, guitar) and Willard Wilcox (vocals, guitar), the tight, kinetic rhythm section of Brett Lee (bass) and Michael Southcomb (drums), and the lush, saturated synths and soundscapes that underpin them. It’s a sound that’s hard to pin down but easy to connect with—emotional, energetic, and packed with memorable moments.
DIY to their core, the band writes, records, and produces everything themselves, and in their short amount of time as a band, they have already found themselves on stage supporting Anberlin, Eve 6, and Every Avenue, as well as being featured by Riot Fest and Vans Warped Tour on social media.
2025 is shaping up to be a big year for the band, with new music dropping and more performances on the horizon, including their first-ever festival performance. Whether you’re catching them live or playing them on repeat, Cool Kills is here to stay.
