COPING was an out of tune, unprofessional, ambition-less rock band known for rushing the tempos and taking too long between songs while playing live. They were active from 2010-2012 in Chicago, despite not having a single member of their band originally from the city they brazenly called home. During this hedonistic time they toured the east coast and southeast/midwest in a 15 passenger van without insurance, temporary plates and a general disregard for responsible decision-making.
Tyler Janssen (guitar/vocals), Reese Dueringer (guitar/vocals), Mac Haertl (bass/vocals), and Tom Kenneally (drums) released a demo CD, “Lawndale” cassette, a split 7” EP with <a href="spotify:artist:5TEySnMY8XQFBOje7OU6Ua" data-name="The Clippers">The Clippers</a> (Boston), and a tour cassette before disbanding, but not before recording an LP (to be released posthumously) titled “NOPE”.
Afterwards, Reese would go on to join a Chicago indie band called OK SARA, as well as releasing solo works as CRICKETS. Mac would join up with members of CLOUDMOUTH and <a href="spotify:artist:1wqn701D1OqYUrBEi7f0tK" data-name="Grown Ups">Grown Ups</a> to form SCOUNDREL. Tom would later recruit Mac to join the post punk band <a href="spotify:artist:3Xv5o5qv7ppLkbphad7WcZ" data-name="Torture Love">Torture Love</a> with two-time tour wrangler Rogelio Zamudio on guitar. Rogelio, Tyler and Del (SCOUNDREL) would form GRAVEL KING. Tom would also lend drums and bass to <a href="spotify:artist:2xyLLHrCNPs6chs48OLVDp" data-name="Bruised">Bruised</a> and TUMS, respectively before moving to Oregon and playing guitar in <a href="spotify:artist:2dBBvBBgUtqEA20hcqCIXl" data-name="OFF-WORLD">OFF-WORLD</a>.
These days Mac is back in California, Reese is in Illinois and Tom is in Maine. Tyler lives in AZ and currently plays guitar and sings in <a href="spotify:artist:72GkMcHMJsH9bQFVtf0CJ0" data-name="Rotter">Rotter</a> , who you should listen to right now.
