Cordoba is a jazz fusion sextet from Chicago. Their music combines neo-soul vocals with jazzy improvisations and hip hop inspired beats. Though they are no strangers to odd and uneven grooves, their music is always rooted in a strong backbeat. Their first LP, Specter, is a reflection on their relationship with Chicago as both political organizers and musicians. They make use of huge arrangements including string and horn sections as they grapple with the systems of injustice so present in our city.
In their next LP In Hell, they take a step back and stick to their jazz ensemble roots as they confront the horrors of everyday life and beyond. The record isn’t all doom and gloom though - it also includes ecstatic reflections on the beauty that surrounds us. They couldn't be happier to share it with you at this release show.
Cordoba has been compared to Hiatus Kaiyote, BADBADNOTGOOD, and Frank Zappa. They have been profiled in the Post-Trash, Bandcamp, Chicago Tribune, PASTE, and American Songwriter among others. They were a 2020 SXSW Showcasing artist. Their members also play in various other projects including Jeezel Petes, Dissonant Dessert, Karma Fete, Jeraf, Bussy Kween Power Trip, Gilt Drip, The Phantom Broadcast, and Heuristic.
