County Road X

Eclectic jazz group County Road X was formed by <a href="spotify:artist:4K6X9Dc8oVPZ3hPEH4IRYG">Erik Deutsch</a> in Boulder, CO, in 2001. <a href="spotify:artist:4K6X9Dc8oVPZ3hPEH4IRYG">Deutsch</a> was born in Washington, D.C., in 1976 and began piano studies at age six at Vanderbilt University. He moved to Boulder in 1996 to attend the University of Colorado and became a member of the jazz band Fat Mama, which released three albums and did the score for the 1999 film Trans. <a href="spotify:artist:4K6X9Dc8oVPZ3hPEH4IRYG">Deutsch</a> completed a degree in piano performance at the University of Colorado and became an adjunct faculty member of the Naropa Institute and an instructor of piano studies at the Boulder Arts Academy. The unusual instrumentation he assembled for County Road X included pedal steel guitar (Glenn Taylor), cello (James Hoskins), upright bass and accordion (Doug Anderson), and percussion (Tadd Vancil). In 2002, the band released a self-titled debut album on Adventure Records, after which the lineup was expanded to include two horn players, Jon Stewart (reeds) and Jon Gray (trumpet).
