The elusive doom rockers known as Cruces formed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2014. Guitarists Nathan Curtis and Evan Mitchell, bassist Dan Hernandez and drummer Dan Buttha had begun writing together in their space at “The shop,” a now defunct venue and studio rental which, for many years, hosted other PGH bands such as Lady Beast and Carousel. They’d auditioned a few singers and written most of the songs on their first album before Naomi Curtis, sister of guitarist Nathan opted to join. They soon began playing shows, recording their self-titled debut later that year.
Cruces’ 7 year run as a band was marked by near misses. They brushed shoulders with some of the greats; opening for the likes of Graveyard, Baroness, and Horisont, yet were unable to land a contract or do any substantial touring. Still, they remained a local favorite.
In 2019 they recorded their 2nd album but due to global pandemic, its release was put on hold. The band tenuously stayed together for 2 more years until their final split in 2021.
Siblings Nathan and Naomi went on to form the similarly minded “World 2” (world2pgh.bandcamp.com). Bassist Dan Hernandez became a founding member of “Sweat” (teepee records).
On January 3, 2025, 4 years after their breakup, Cruces released their 2nd and final album. "Spite" the record was tracked live during one weekend in 2019 at Mr. Smalls Studio in Millvale, PA by Nate Campisi. All of the songs are one vocal take and some of them are one instrumental take. Enjoy.
