Born and raised in Te-Whanganui-A-Tara/Wellington is CRYSTAL, the music project of upcoming alternative pop artist and producer Crystal Amor-Ponter.
Making her live music debut in 2019 while studying commercial music at Massey University, CRYSTAL played local Wellington festivals, Cuba Dupa and Newtown Fest and supported Australian artist KIAN on the Wellington leg of his NZ tour before having released any music online.
Her debut single, ‘My Flowers Are Dead’ featured on TVNZ’s body swap comedy series ‘Life Is Easy’, in addition to CRYSTAL being credited as a co-producer on the theme song. Her sophomore release ‘The Chase’ landed on Spotify's 'New Music Friday AU & NZ', 'Pop n Fresh', and ‘EQUAL AU & NZ’ playlists and featured on Sniffers.
In October, CRYSTAL made her EP debut with 'Garlic Ice Cream', a 5-track project which she describes as "a lil snapshot into a few key moments from my late teens, to early 20's - the type of moments which are either super exciting, rather mundane, or so fucking shit".
CRYSTAL has just released her sophomore EP 'Dead Ends' (29 September), which showcases her most honest songwriting and growth as an artist to date. As CRYSTAL continues to develop her sound, and shares with us her unique perspective on the world, she solidifies herself as one of Aotearoa's most exciting new artists, and one to watch.
