One freezing Winter evening as Ruairí O'Cathail put his first ever rap bars on paper the young man suddenly felt the spirit of legendary Irish warrior Cú Chulainn calling him on a mission to awaken in the hearts and minds of the people, the 2000 year-old ancient Celtic traditions of language, music and oral storytelling. That is the moment Ruairí became the rapper Cú Chulainn and since 2023 this passionate artist has been dedicated to honing his craft with captivating narratives, addictive hooks, immersive rap flows, multi-lingual lyrical prowess, infatuating melodies and originally crafted, experimental instrumentals.
Cú Chulainn's first release 'Spiorad Ceilteach' [pronounced: Spirid-Kel-Chock] ('Celtic Spirit') is the first single of his upcoming 'An t-ardú' ('The Rise') EP. The song seamlessly infuses the triumvirate elements of the Irish language, Irish traditional music and American hip hop influences whilst encapsulating the true essence of Gaelic musical traditions; the rhythm, the beat, the flow, the energy and the journey. Mixed by internationally renowned Irish producer Elemental the result is a beautifully crafted, cutting edge and totally refreshing cross over 'Trad-Hop' anthem which bursts to life with the sound of accordions, bodhrans, guitar, fiddle, keyboard, harp and the sultry vocals of Ulster Scór na nÓg champion Niamh Noade.
