Cullen Winter Blues Band is fondly remembered as the Thursday night band at the Alley Cantina in Taos, NM, the band performed 800+ shows there over a 13 year run. They have also performed at hundreds of the Southwest’s sleaziest bars, seediest nightclubs and dilapidated dance halls.
Consisting of Cullen Winter on guitar and vocals, Dan Lizdas on piano and Hammond B3, Curtis Randell on Bass, JB Sutherland on drums, Jeremy Jones on tenor sax and John Carey on harp. To quote a review that appeared in national publication Big City Blues magazine, "This is an artist who has some damn good blues going on".
Cullen hails from Denver, Colorado where as the son of a local radio DJ, he had the fortunate opportunity to spend time with the legendary Muddy Waters and his band anytime they were in the area, which was frequent in the 1970's. This was a major influence on the young musician's life and he was playing professional gigs before the age of 13 in Denver area clubs. Over the years he has had the good fortune to play all over the country at famed venues such as Bluestock and B.B. Kings in Memphis, the Maple Leaf and Vic's Kangaroo Bar in New Orleans, Kingston Mines and Buddy Guy's in Chicago, Junior Kimbrough's juke joint in Chulahoma, Mississippi to name a few. Cullen has also been blessed with chances to share the bandstand with luminaries including, R.L. Burnside, Walter "Wolfman" Washington, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Marcia Ball, Dave Alvin, Corey Harris to note only a handful.
