Metro Detroit area band Current existed for just a few short years in the early '90s, but they helped define emo's second wave, moving even further away from the fast tempos and aggressive dispositions of hardcore to explore more restrained playing, group dynamics, and the cultivation of moody, poetically informed atmospheres. The band produced just a handful of 7"s and the sole album Coliseum during their lifetime, but their influence became apparent in subsequent waves of emo and post-hardcore, enough to merit their entire catalog being repackaged as the Yesterday's Tomorrow Is Not Today box set by the Numero Group in 2022.
