CBMC was a Philadelphia-based band fronted by Shari Heck, who wrote and recorded all of the songs from her bedroom. Active from 2013-2015, her songs are about relationships, being shy, mistakes and everything in between. A lot of her words could have served as my AIM away messages circa 2005, containing just the right amount of angst and uneasy confidence. Her songs are evocative portraits, painted in gentle touches and soft whispers, with light guitar strums over wordy lyrics that are both irreverent and unflinchingly sentimental.

I've shifted into a different phase of life though there's such big warmth and lightness in these time-stamps of how I felt in the midst of this project at 18-20. As deeply, as inevitably angsty! I really felt my feelings through when writing alone as CBMC got started. I posted a song to Tumblr that I wrote in my first off-campus apartment in Philly. I slept on a futon in the living room to save money on 13th and Spruce. I wrote and recorded songs in that living room, on that futon, for a year and didn't care if they were good or not. There is an openness (and earnestness) I had with myself back then that I admire going into 27. Thank you for listening + supporting. In the words of Eileen Myles, "Time passes. That's for sure."
