Growing up in Downey, CA, Derek, otherwise known as D-RECK KILLZ, first became inspired to get into the music business by his entire family. Around the age of 10, he started producing beats and writing songs in a notebook. He later joined band once he got to middle school and played the saxophone. At the age of 14 he recorded his first song in the studio with his cousins, who were formerly signed by Warner Bros. DJ ILL WILL co-signed the song and released it on World Star Hip Hop, creating a local buzz for D-RECK.
D-RECK continued to record and release music consistently over the next few years until he teamed up with his best friend Devon and started the rap duo RTG. RTG became well known in the streets, and they were given many opportunities to open concerts for various popular artists such as YG, T- Pain, Nipsey Hustle, and many more. In 2016 RTG released their single, Slay, which went viral on the Musical.ly app and has accumulated over 4 million streams. This song led to them being discovered by hit producer, Dr. Luke, and landed them their first deal with his label Kemosabe Records. Although their single played on the radio all summer long, things were not playing out the way RTG had hoped so both the label and RTG agreed to part ways. RTG is now independent, still releasing music, and both artists (D-RECK & Devon) release solo music as well.
D-RECK continues to push the RTG brand, but now the public will also be able to find his solo music on various platforms.
