Dakim Saadiq (who releases music under his first name, as well as just Dak) is an experimental beatmaker from Detroit by way of Los Angeles. The reclusive artist was one of the first signings to Matthewdavid's Leaving Records, and his fractured, lo-fi sample constructions have earned praise from L.A. beat scene regulars such as Flying Lotus and Ras G. His first release was 2009's Standthis on Leaving Records. Following several self-released CD-Rs, he released two 7" EPs in 2011 (Ntoo and Damage) as well as 34 Fragments, an experimental album pieced together from recordings of his everyday surroundings, which was released by Italian label Senufo Editions in 2012. Several more tapes on Leaving Records followed, including Youstandit/Leftrecord, Ddust Regos (as Dakim), and Soap. In 2016, Leaving released Reishi, a full-length LP Dakim produced under the name Saafron. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
