Earnest and soulful, Melbourne based Coastal Country artist Dakota East travels both on a lonesome mountain dirt road and an inner city street.
"Mum and Dad would have people like Bonnie Raitt, Shania Twain, Neil Young and John Denver playing around the house" says East of her musical upbringing. "Growing up in a log cabin on a small island in the middle of a lake in Ontario Canada, the music married with the scenery so well and was the perfect soundtrack to my childhood".
2017 saw East move to Melbourne where she performs regular and has opened for Australian music legends Jon Stevens, Travis Collins & Jo Camilleri and The Black Sorrows.
Dreamy and alluring, her eagerly awaited debut single “Runaway” was released in May 2021. An immediate reception recognizing something fresh and authentic, Runaway has accumulated over 350,000 streams and was added to Spotify and Apple official playlists. The song has also received significant radio airplay, reaching #20 on the Countrytown Hot 50 charts, which in turn led to East being named Countrytown Artist of the Week.
Being selected as a top 10 finalist in the 2024 Toyota Starmaker Competition was a supercharged way to begin the year for the vocalist, culminating in a performance on the main stage of the Tamworth Country Music Festival to a crowd of 3000+ fans.
Undoubtedly original, East represent’s a new wave of younger artist flying the flag for the changing landscape of Country music.
